I always had a love for fashion.
My grand aunt Elaine had a chest of shoes.
Pumps, stilettos, wedges, any kind of heel you could imagine. I can remember spending hours playing with those shoes in between reading my favorite Disney stories, Beauty & The Beast and The Little Mermaid.
What 6 year old do you know that can walk up and down stairs in 4 inch heels?!
My desire for a career in fashion was not always supported. My grandmother wanted me to be a teacher, nurse or a doctor and for a time I was obedient and gave the medical industry a try.
Needless to say, I failed horribly. During my time working in a group home, I applied for a job at a local bridal salon. I was so excited! I got to be around fashion almost everyday!
No matter, who did not did not support me, I couldn't help but follow my heart.
I enrolled in Fashion school shortly after becoming a Bridal Consultant.
I received a degree in fashion design & construction and began my journey of making my own collections. I enjoyed the process and loved making other women feel beautiful in what I designed.
Aunt Elaine - She has always been such a chic lady and my style muse.
I created my first collection in the spring of 2009.
I presented it in my first fashion show that fall.
It was refreshing, liberating and so me!
Joi-Louise Collection | Circa 2011
Fast forward to October of 2016, I created Joi-Louise The Label.
A label designed to house all of my creativity, power and style.
I create all of the prints in my collection on my MacBook and I like to call myself a "digital designer". Under my label is a movement called #TurboFeminist (TF).
I am such a supporter of women and their success in any and everything they want to do.
Turbo Feminist is all about kicking feminine power, support and achievement in to over drive.
Each piece from the TF collection holds a special place in my heart, because I believe in supporting women of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs.
I hope you enjoy wearing my label as much as I enjoy creating it.
